Perhaps the last thing I expected to find in a Nazi documentation centre were Minnie and Miky Mouse Pride toys. But in an exhibition about the pushback against Anti-feminism, it's a good conversation starting object. In the feedback area, visitors had left comments questioning whether Disney creating pride memorabilia means they are a supportive LGBTQ+ ally, or cashing in while also pinkwashing their stories which are full of 'traditional' gender roles. Good question.
As the museum documenting the Nazi regime upstairs – and the Gestapo cells downstairs – show, hatred can grow surprisingly quickly and can soon get out of hand. If we are able to look past Disney’s queer money grab, we can hopefully see can we see them not as evil but as a force for good. If.
