Perhaps one of the most striking objects in the new museum displays is a very early sketch of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament logo. It’s a privilege to get up close to something in the making that is now recognisable the world over. But here you can see the artist working with the letters CN and D, trying to figure out what it will eventually look like. It’s great to see objects like this alongside more incongruous or unexpected items. Together, they offer historical reminders of what peacebuilding has looked like in the past as well as asking us what we can do to make peace succeed today.
The CND logo was designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom and is on loan to the Peace Museum from the Commonweal Collection.
