Waterlogged and almost forgotten about, this board game sat on the river bed for 500 years in the wreck of the Mary Rose. It’s amazing to think that the colours of the different woods remain almost as clear as they were, half a millennia ago, preserved in dark, watery silence for all that time.

Today, dried out and conserved, it’s one of the many reminders of the people who lived and worked aboard the ship, complete with playing counters, leather pot and dice.
