Footprint overshoes, Imperial War Museum, London

Special Operations Executive agents operating in South-East Asia during the Second World War used overshoes like these to cover their tracks. Strapped under the wearer’s shoes, they could disguise both someone’s footprints and the direction they were walking in. They’re on display in Spies, Lies and Deception an exhibition at IWM London about deception and espionage from the First World War to the present day.

It's open until 14 April 2024.
