Playing card, Horniman Museum, London

Happy International Bat Appreciation Day. While the museum has real bat specimens in its collection, along with cricket bats, my eye was drawn to this small Victorian playing card, one of a set of 26 held in the anthropology collection. The colour picture on the front is of a 'flying-dog' (flying fox or fruit bat), while the reverse has a clue to the identity of the animal depicted on the front: 'Who flies with four legs through the wood?'.

You can view the entire animal playing card set on the Horniman’s online collection . I’m not sure when international camel, dingo or ermine days are.
