Not only is this cabbage carved from jadeite and not only is it a treasure of the museum, now it’s also the star of a tv show. Palace of Serendipity is a new 10-part series in Taiwan, each episode inspired by a museum object from the palace’s collection.
The story begins in a building where each treasure lives isolated in a separate apartment – perhaps after a year in lockdown, we feel a bit like museum objects now, locked away on our own?
Ten award-winning actors then creatively personify selected treasures from the museum with some historical background and a fair it of creative interpretation. The anthropomorphised treasures are residents in an apartment building that is isolated due to an accident. Each has its own short story which are, by the end of the series, all subtly connected to one another.
In the episode inspired by this object, Lego Lee portrays the cabbage as a fast-talking, paranoid cook. The pressure to quickly cook a lot of cabbage apparently drove the character wild.
