You might remember the scene in Derry Girls where students are asked to write things that protestants and catholics have in common, and also their differences. The resulting satire of sectarianism made for great tv. And it also underlined some of the ingrained attitudes in Northern Ireland that many have spent decades trying to overcome.
And now it’s on display in a museum. CultureLab is, in the words of the museum, “a place to take a good, hard look at the cultural stereotypes that we all know surround us here in Northern Ireland.”
If we can do that using museum objects, then great, I say. And if we class this prop from a tv show, originally intended as a catalyst for comedy, as an important cultural object, then even better.
