When Charles Thackray had his surname printed onto this medicine jar around 100 years ago, he probably didn’t think it would end up being the name of a museum.
Charles’ small family-run chemist shop in Leeds developed into a major firm, supplying drugs and medical instruments and equipment across the world. When the business was sold to a multi-national in 1990, Paul Thackray established the Thackray Museum to enable the wider public to learn more about the story of medicine, while also honouring his grandfather’s successes.
The museum’s current £3.7m-project, A Healthy Future will transform the museum experience for yet another generation.
