‘The Thames below Westminster’ (about 1871) by Claude Monet, National Gallery

Think of Monet and think of light, ponds of waterlilies and the occasional bridge. But he also painted plenty of buildings too. ‘Monet and Architecture’ opens today at the National Gallery. 75 paintings architectural paintings from Rouen, Paris and Venice, brought together for the first time. And, of course he painted the Houses of Parliament and some of London’s bridges too. I wonder what he’d make of central London today.
